Providing natural solutions to help you find balance in your life! |
|
Dr. Reid believes that health is balance between all aspects of the individual's life, including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Symptoms of disease reflect improper functioning and imbalance within the body. Every person has the ability to respond to these signals from the body, but often need guidance in order to regain and maintain optimal health.
As a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Reid will listen to your health concerns and work with you to develop an appropriate treatment plan to support your body's innate ability to heal. Dr. Reid is committed to helping guide others to achieve balance in all aspects of life and discover the healing power of nature within.
While at CCNM, she completed internships at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, with special rotations in Sports Medicine, Pain Management and Homeopathy. She also completed an internship at Anishnawbe Health Toronto, with a special focus on the aboriginal inner city population. In addition, she has had additional training in facial rejuvenation acupuncture, intravenous therapy and homeopathy.
As a student, she had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua on a volunteer medical brigade with Natural Doctors International, as well as being involved in various fundraising events benefiting community organizations.

What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is a system of primary health care that uses natural therapies to support and stimulate the body's own self-healing process. The naturopathic doctor views the whole individual, and symptoms of disease are seen as warning signals of improper functioning of the body and unhealthy lifestyle habits.
Naturopathic doctors are trained as primary health care providers, with a minimum of 3 years of university pre-medicine studies and successful completion of an accredited 4 year naturopathic medical program. Standardized licensing exams are carried out throughout North America as a part of proper registration of the profession.
Naturopathic doctors can complement and enhance health care services provided by other health care professionals. They provide a truly integrative form of health care guided by the following principles:
First do no harm
Cooperate with the Healing Power of Nature
Address the Fundamental Causes of Disease
Teach the Principles of Healthy Living and Preventative Medicine
Treat the Whole Person as an Individual

What are the Naturopathic Therapies Offered?
Clinical Nutrition addresses the relationship between diet and disease. Many of the chronic health problems that plague people today are the result of poor dietary choices, nutritional deficiencies or food sensitivities. By changing our diet to include foods that are right for each individual, we can often change the course of illness and restore health. A nutritional program may also include nutrient supplementation.
Botanical Medicine is the use of medicinal plants in the form of teas, tinctures, capsules and other forms of herbal preparations to treat illness and promote wellness. Botanical preparations of individual herbs or a combination of herbs are prescribed safely and effectively with attention to potential side effects and interactions with other medications.
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used for thousands of years to rebalance the flow of energy, or qi, that circulates through the body. The insertion of acupuncture needles at points along the energy channels, or meridians, acts to correct imbalances of energy present in the disease process and allows proper energy flow to occur. The use of botanical formulas and diet therapy can also be used to re-establish the balance of energy in acute and chronic conditions.
Homeopathic Medicine is based on the principle of like cures like. A diluted remedy, produced from plant, animal or mineral, is selected which in its crude form would produce in a healthy individual the same symptoms found in a sick person. Homeopathic remedies are prescribed based on an individual's unique symptoms and characteristics, and are used to stimulate the body's innate ability to heal on a physical, emotional and energetic level.
Physical Medicine includes the use of hands-on techniques such as soft tissue manipulation, spinal manipulation and therapeutic electrical stimulation, as well as hydrotherapy and exercise prescriptions to improve circulation and overall wellness.
Lifestyle Counselling addresses the daily habits and choices we all make which have a tremendous impact on our health. Naturopathic doctors are trained to help the individual explore their lifestyle choices and mental attitudes in order to remove any obstacles to optimal health.
